Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is not just a martial art—it’s a lifestyle that embodies physical prowess, mental fortitude, and technical mastery. Here’s why you should immerse yourself in the world of BJJ:

  • Proven Effectiveness: BJJ’s techniques are so effective that they’ve become a cornerstone of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). It teaches you how to defend against larger opponents by using leverage and technique rather than brute strength.

  • Physical Fitness: Engaging in BJJ is a full-body workout that improves strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. It’s an enjoyable way to stay fit while learning self-defense.

  • Mental Benefits: Training BJJ sharpens the mind. It requires strategic thinking akin to playing physical chess, where every move counts.

  • Community: Joining a BJJ academy means becoming part of a supportive community that shares your passion for growth and learning.

  • Self-Defense: BJJ is one of the most effective martial arts for real-world self-defense situations. It equips you with the skills to control or neutralize threats without causing unnecessary harm.

  • Competition: For those who love to test their skills, BJJ offers a thriving competition scene with tournaments for all skill levels, from local to international championships.

No-Gi Jiu Jitsu

Step onto our mat and embrace the fluidity of No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, where the absence of traditional uniforms paves the way for a faster, more dynamic grappling experience. Here’s why No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu might just be the martial art you’re looking for:

  1. Realistic Self-Defense: No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu strips away the reliance on clothing grips, teaching you to handle opponents as you would encounter them in real life—without conveniently placed handles1.

  2. Enhanced Physical Conditioning: The pace is quick, the action non-stop. You’ll build incredible cardiovascular endurance, learning to manage your energy efficiently across rounds1.

  3. Mental Agility: No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu demands quick thinking and adaptability. As you roll, you’ll sharpen your mind, always staying two steps ahead of your opponent2.

  4. Seamless MMA Transition: If you’re eyeing the cage, No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu provides a solid foundation for mixed martial arts, focusing on techniques that translate directly to the sport.

  5. Focus on Technique: Without the Gi, you can’t rely on fabric grips, so your technique has to be on point. This hones your skills to a razor’s edge, making every move count.

  6. Diverse Community: No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu attracts a wide range of practitioners, from hobbyists to professional fighters. You’ll find camaraderie and competition in equal measure.

  7. Accessibility: All you need is a rash guard and shorts, making it an easy start for newcomers. No special gear required—just show up and start training.

  8. Improved Grip Strength: Even without the Gi, you’ll develop a vice-like grip, learning to control opponents with nothing but your bare hands.

Ready to dive into the world of No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu and discover the strength, agility, and confidence it can bring to your life? The mat awaits!

Freestyle Judo

Judo, known as “the gentle way,” is more than just a martial art—it’s a path to physical and mental harmony. Here’s why you should consider starting your Judo journey:

  • Olympic Sport: Judo has been an Olympic sport since 1964, showcasing the highest level of competition and sportsmanship on a global stage.

  • Effective Self-Defense: It teaches practical self-defense techniques, focusing on throws and groundwork to neutralize opponents effectively.

  • Physical Fitness: Judo provides a full-body workout that enhances strength, balance, and coordination, contributing to overall health and well-being.

  • Mental Discipline: The strategic nature of Judo fosters mental toughness, decision-making skills, and a calm mind under pressure.

  • Cultural Experience: As a Japanese martial art, Judo offers a rich cultural experience, connecting you to its traditions and philosophies.

  • Community: Joining a Judo club like OBJJ introduces you to a community of like-minded individuals who support each other’s growth.

Whether you’re interested in competition, looking for a new fitness routine, or seeking a martial art with deep philosophical roots, Judo has something to offer. With its emphasis on efficiency and mutual respect, Judo can be a transformative practice that enriches your life both on and off the mat.

Representing USA on the Sr. Olympic Judo team is our very own instructor Lakea Vargas, the most accomplished Judo competitor currently teaching in Central Florida. Lakea is also a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, known for utilizing both sports in his game to his advantage. Ready to embrace the gentle way?

GFT_Orlando_Logo.jpg

Having recently become one of the top five Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teams in the world, Grappling Fight Team (GFT) formerly known as Universidade Gama Filho (UGF) has had great success in Brazil since the 1990’s, with the turn of the 2010’s decade, GFT was propelled to world wide success through a series of excellent results at an international level and the continuous production of high level fighters such as Denilson Pimenta (our head instructor) , Rodolfo Vieira, Ricardo Evangelista, Italo Lins and many others.

With several black belts, all with diverse backgrounds, specialties, styles, and body types we don’t find it conducive to limit our students to one head instructor. Instead, our black belts work together to create a collaborative learning environment for all of our students.

Reviews

“I recommend this place to all parents, it has taught our son so much discipline, self defense without violence and keeps him fit. This is the best thing you could do for your kids and the trainers have so much patience.”

- Angela Suarez

“I spent a week training at Orlando BJJ in preparation for Masters Worlds and had a fantastic time. I have trained all over the country and this was by far the best experience I have had as a visitor to a gym. By the end of my trip, everyone knew my name and went out of their way to make sure that I felt prepared for my upcoming tournament. I made several friends during my time there and cannot wait to return. If you are reading my review and are in the Orlando area, you need to stop by and train. You will have a once in a lifetime experience.”

- Matt Moretz

“A family atmosphere with world class instruction, mix that with an amazing facility and you have one of the best places to train anyone could ask for...”

- Mike Sgroi
